Mix sugar,
soda, buttermilk and salt in saucepan, and cook
for 5 minutes over medium heat. Add butter and
pecans and cook until mixture reaches the
soft-ball stage. |

Remove from
heat, cool and beat until creamy. Add vanilla,
and drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper.
